Event Photography

Event photography is very exciting work as it often allows you to get up close and personal with subjects that are dear to your heart.

It always helps to have a passion for your subjects this will always show through in your images.

An event is something that is put on for other people to attend, witness and more than likely remember. Photography is big business especially when it comes to sport. Newspapers in pay lots of money for images that best represent the event and also the events during the event.

Just spend a few minuets thinking about the calendar of huge sporting events that happen globally. How many flashes are going off per second, how many lens changes have occurred just whilst reading this paragraph. Everyone wants the perfect shot, just as his head hits the canvas or the look on his face as he picks his head out of the mud after scoring the winning try in the dying minuets. These are all moments that best represent the event and its these moments that are most memorable.

Event Photography does not just consist of sporting events but a whole host of activities from theatre to street performers from concerts to air shows they are all events that people have an interest in and so want images to remember them.

I have constructed a list of events opposite that are quite mainstream. One thing to remember event photography is still photography and to be able to capture the right ethos of the event you need to be able to do two things

1. Understand your camera and your equipment. It is important that you know how your camera works and how it reacts to light. know the zoom capabilities of each of your lenses and also the difference between aperture and shutter speed. In the field you need to make quick decision if your too slow you run the risk of missing your opportunity.

2.  Be able to anticipate opportunities. Being able to read the event will put you in a good position for the perfect shot. If his legs wobbled in the 8th you know he is going down in the 9th be ready for it.
